Finally i reached somewhere close to the signal not before i waited for 3 signal changes.
Then Saw a little guy approaching my car wearing a torn shirt and a trouser....with few ear buds packet and a car wiping yellow coloured cloth....He was selling it...His job is not to beg...but to sell those to the cars which stops in the signals...
He came near my car window which was closed and asked me whether i wud need those stuffs... I said i dont want since i had the yellow cloth with me in my car and i also took the cloth and showed him that i dont want to buy another one... but he kept on insisting me to buy it... When i was struggling to handle his selling pressure.......I SAW..........Tear drops which was about to flow down of that little boy's eye..............My whole day went for a toss.....that picture is still in my heart...not able to forget the tears which was stacked in those little eyes...I didnt know how to react...
Bought the earbuds for his sake and threw it away....
I dont know one damnnn thing in this...Should we appreciate these kids because they are not begging but selling something or doing some kind of work to earn??? ....I would ....if they dont take advantage of it thinking that its an easy way to make money.
So..wat is the way to eradicate it??....infact i have advised few kids who use to beg outside my school....not to do it...if they lack financially....let them work and earn money....But begging shudnt be the option for them at that age....infact at all ages.
Being a human being in this country, who wants to do something for the society but doesnt have the authority, to give these kids some work or doesnt have the financial power to give them education and food ....So, do we have to leave it to the govt ????who is partially responsible for the state of these people????....
Well the signal did gave me a thought inside me...
Green signal flashed for the vehicles to move...But the little boy preferred to stay back!!!!!!!But his sorrow filled face got attached to my mind !!!!
P.S - Please do not buy those earbuds which they sell on the street signals...Cos..They are made using the cotton which gets thrown out of the hospitals... Shocking...But its TRUE !!! Take Care.(If u wish to feed a kid....buy it and throw it....)

keep up the gud work:)
Good to know that there are people who notice such kids whose age is to study and play and enjoy life but instead are struggling and suffering.
you have described it so very well, i could see all this happening in frn of my eyes.
Your incident reminds me that everytime when I go to fill petrol in car i make sure that also check the air in the tires and everytime there is a really cute little boy who fills in air in the tires and though the air service there is free, I give him some money or the other and he becomes so happy with that. I know giving him a ruppee or two isnt going to help him but as i cant see such a small boy working instead of studying , i feel i have done something.
Macha! Heart-a touch pannitta po!
voow!
but i thought u clicked frm ur car
@my inner world
Well...ur right..infact yesterday in my office we conducted something called "bread day"it worked out sooo very well...collected some 150 loafs of bread and distributed it to the needy people in parrys ...outside a church...wer they gather every tuesday....and it was a great feeling to give them that out of ur hand...i have never done anything personally like that so far to these kind of ppl..except putting a 1 or 2 rupee coin outside a temple...but..this was fantastic..
Since ur a lecturer in a college...im sure u wil have some programme of this sort..of collecting money and donating...if not...i think ur the right person to initiate it.....wat i have planned to do is to inform my frnds who are employed in various corporates...so ...they can even start somethin similar...and i can see this working BIGGG TIME...
And thanks for giving that boy a rupee or two :)
@retardo
thanks machii....urupdiya edhaavadhu panra...unga bhopal la.. :D
A similar thing happened with me. WHile I was at a popular shopping complex, this small little boy comes upto me and pulls the ends of my frock, pestering me to buy his shabby drawing. Just a hut with a river flowing outside and colored with cheap crayons.
My friend just pushed him aside and said that 'we' didnt want the painting and that he should go away and continue his life in peace.
After I took a few steps, and called out, 'Didi!' with a shy smile on his face.
I looked back.
And then, he made me re-collect one odd day, some two months back, when I appreciated the rag-picker kids in THAT same shopping complex, as to how it is better to resort to earning for your bread, rather than getting down to begging. Though, they cannot supplement their life with quality education, they are striving for each penny that they earn.
He asks me, 'Aap wahi Didi ho na?' (You are the same girl, right!)
I just nodded my head.
He further questions, 'I am NOT like the other kids here, who run after people for money, wait for a chance to smoke ganja, waiting to steal cellphones from foreigners. I cannot study, but does that mean, people shun me away; cuz I want to sell my hut drawings?'
I started to CRY!
How COULD I do it? Not appreciate him for his efforts? If I dont motivate him, what would make him NOT beg? There gotta be someone who would tell him, that he is a cut above his peers.
I would still prefer to buy cotton-buds and afternoon dailies from people on the traffic signals. I wouldnt mind buying dried rose buds. We spend so much money in petrolling our car, what is 2 rupees in front of that?
Even today, I might give 2 rupees for a person who is making efforts and not BUY his paper.
Appreciation makes a huge difference in running that extra mile :)
fantastic...*applause*
no other words...cheers...
@voodoo
And u made me to make a change in my last statement in the P.S section....thnx...
strong and informative. But still i am confused about how to treat them..
anyway, good writing. Keep it up.
Giri
@giri
mmmm....ur right..its damn confusing...i feel...this wont stop...until and unless the bribing, human trafficking, pathetic greedy rule of politicians...etc.etc stops
how many ever movies come on these topics...it doesnt luk like changing even a bit...
but i try to maintain self discipline as much as possible...and i wish ppl follow it...i feel self discipline is pretty important to put a full stop on these things happening....atleast indirectly...hope u get wat i tried to say..
but keep feeding a mouth(orphans)atleast once in two months...as per the plans which i hav posted in my previous answer to @inner world....jus scroll above..
well this is one of the reason i always buy tehelka magazine or outlook on traffic lights
perhaps it would help the less privileged
this is one reason which prompted me to take up community service in school teach in schools and stuff u know afterall an educated in india is a developed india and we all can play our parts atleast
what say
@shex
if one cud do so...nothin like it man...that wud be a gr8 service..
"Indian Democracy Begs.... At Signals !!!"
It not only begs..Its beaten!!
Once it happened wen me n one of my friend were waiting for the Red to be turned into Green @ a signal near Adyar. We were cursing the Sun for burning so Hot. A small girl of aged surely not more than 9/10 selling ear buds. She went to each n every person in d traffic n asked them to buy her stuff. But apart from 1 or 2 guys (May b like u, Rajiv), none bought the product.
We were woching or waiting wen wud b our turn.Finally she came to us too..n said 'Akka akka..onne onnu vangikangaka.Kalailarndhu sapdave ila.Romba Pasikudhukka..yarume vangala..neenglachum vangikangaka!!' (sister,plz buy one.didnt had food from morning n am so hungry too..Atleast U buy one)
Honestly, the first thot came to our mind was 'Is she speaking the truth?!?' But after a second I pushed away the Devil(or watever it was..) n told myself..'so wat..atleast shes s trying to work rather than begging!!'
Again d so-cald devil arised n stated 'But this s her age to study!! Dese ppl doesnt want to goto school n earn by this cheap methods, an alternative method of Begging..Dnt appreciate this!!'
But d angel inside me stood up n pushed d Devil aside n said..'COME ON!! HAV MERCY!!' So I told ma frnd to open the scooty dicky where i had kept ma handbag. I took a 20rs note n gave d kid n bough 2 packs of buds.
Then there came a Black Skoda wid a fancy number on it..but d brake fell very lately as the car hit the little girl stood beside me. She lost the balance wid a THUD n a sound 'AMMA'.Everybdy's head turned on her.Before we helped her to get up, the traffic constable standing on a tree shadow came running n started beating the gal,'saniyane,ethana dhadava solradhu signala vandhu nikadhanu..idhuku than pethu potangla unaiya.pottakaludha!!'(dono wat exactly s saniyan cald in English..Get that the gal was scolded wid all filthy words which i dont want to share here) He grabbed the girl pushed her aside on the platform,frm where she ran away CRYING!! U shud note one thing here..Only God knows howmuch important the VIP inside the car who doesnt even want to get dwn or doesnt even want to peep thru the window!!
BLOODY DEMOCRACY!!
I took a 20rs note n gave d kid n bough 2 packs of buds.
Thanks for this!!!u did ur part!!!balance leave it to god... :)
cheers!!
Hey Rajiv... Great.. I dont have words to say anything at all.. Am bewildered. Astonished.. I never knew you could write so well. Hats off da.. That blog on Indian Democracy on the roads was touching.. Great da.. Good talent.. Dont waste it any more...
thanks machi.
a real good post. liked it to the core. :)
I to have similar incidents like this, infact many have this exp.I've always did my part in buying buds and throwing it away.
But the % of those who brought buds to help the kid is pretty less when compared to those who ignored or even pushed them aside.
I have seen people get out of vehicle and hit them that too in the same traffic. Pathetic Democracy !
keep up the gud work:)
